Mantra or quote you want to share:
The background on my phone right now says “No Steps Backwards.” It’s simple but it’s been something I’ve tried to live by over the last few years. Things are never going to be perfect or go exactly how we want them to but if you learn from every situation you’re never moving backwards — always forward.
What’s out there right now that is inspiring you?
I’ve really enjoyed watching the Washington Football Team tease their upcoming rebrand. All of the content seems very generic but it’s just enough to make you cling to every word or every shot to look for hints of their direction.
They’ve even got a promoted tweet with a meme that I see every time I open Twitter. I think we all look at scenarios that other teams are in sometimes and think “how would we handle this if we were in their shoes” it’s been fun to sit back and watch Washington lead up to this big moment in their franchise history.
Do you have any favorite apps, gadgets, or hardware?
I can’t say enough good things about the PremiereRush app from Adobe. One of the big learning curves I had to adjust to this year is the content velocity in the NFL. College teams are fairly limited on what can and can’t post during live games so most content is edited post-game.
In the NFL things move significantly faster so getting content out in-game is critical. I was skeptical of PremiereRush at first but after using it for one game to clip plays from the field I can’t believe I wasn’t using it before. 10/10 recommend.
What’s something some people may not know about you?
I’ve seen every episode of Grey’s Anatomy. I wouldn’t even consider myself a big “fan” of the show at this point but I’m too invested to stop watching.
Who is someone you want to give some much-deserved credit to?
Can I cheat and go with two people? Michaiah Smith and Eichel Davis. First and foremost they are both extremely talented content creators in their own rights.
Eichel continues to disprove the myth that storytelling can’t be good social content and Mac is paving the way for creatives in modern sports agencies. Beyond all of that, I can’t express how good it is to have them as friends
. We as content creators don’t talk much about the dramatic ups and downs of our jobs — especially as black men in the industry. It’s so nice to have people in your circle who you trust who you know get it because they’re going through the same things.
We’re all in similar stages of our careers where we’re transitioning into manager roles and it’s really good to have people who will gas you up when you need to be gassed or call you out when you need to be checked. The longer I’m in the industry, the more I realize how important it is to just be a good person. Mac and Eichel deserve credit for a lot.
What is a piece of content you are obsessed with from another creator or brand? Link if you have it
The NFL recently released a promo for this year’s super bowl halftime show and I can’t stop watching it. I see something new every time. On paper, this year’s halftime show seems a bit all over the place musically but the video uses really cool imagery and transitions to link it all together. It’s also really inspiring to see a major piece of content like this that’s unapologetically black and also created by a black director (F. Gary Gray).
